Dr Whiting on Calcium, Absorption, and Osteoporosis, Help
For years, medical doctors have touted the benefit of taking calcium and perhaps a magnesium supplement to slow down the progression of bone loss, a condition called osteoporosis. They have been reluctant however, to go so far as to say that these minerals can prevent or improve osteoporosis. This is because early studies indicated that taking calcium did not effectively increase bone density in menopausal and post-menopausal women. Recent studies however show that osteoporosis and bone loss can indeed be controlled and even reversed by the right combination of calcium, magnesium and select trace minerals. Studies conducted on osteoporosis and bone loss patients at the University of California at San Diego, have shown that when calcium and magnesium are combined with the right ratio of the trace minerals boron, manganese, copper, zinc and most recently, strontium, the return of calcium ions to bone tissue accelerates as much as ten-fold. Further, the calcium and magnesium used for osteoporosis and bone loss must be an acidified, chelated form for maximum absorption. Studies repeatedly show that a combination of citrates and malates provide the best absorption to combat bone loss and clinical osteoporosis. Alternatives to potentially dangerous drugs for osteoporosis include the right forms of calcium together with key trace minerals such as zinc, copper, manganese and strontium. As we age, bone loss and osteoporosis become an increasing problem due to calcium deficiency caused by a lack of calcium absorption. Until recent years, bone loss and osteoporosis were thought to be irreversible. This is not longer the case as there have been at least 7 clinical studies spanning a 15 year period that have shown that calcium can not only slow and halt the progression of osteoporosis and bone loss, but that the right form of calcium, together with key trace minerals, can actually increase bone density and prevent osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. We, based on these important studies, have developed bio-Complete Calcium Liquid and Capsule formulas. Obviously diet plays a big role in the calcium/osteoporosis relationship. We have already mentioned the fact that most people, as they age, have increased difficulty digesting and absorbing calcium. Other dietary issues may also contribute to gross calcium deficiency. Vegan or vegetarian diets can create severe calcium and magnesium deficiencies. Calcium is not found in high amounts in vegan diets. Unless these individuals supplement their diet, they can be at high risk for calcium deficiency. It is important to be aware that many calcium supplements have less than a 20 percent absorption rate. The Institute’s Bio-Complete Calcium Plus liquid or capsule formulas contain everything needed to ensure maximum calcium absorption. The truth of the matter is that most diets do not provide adequate minerals in general due to the lack of minerals in the farmlands upon which our foods are grown. Anywhere from 20 to 80 percent of key minerals can be missing from foods grown on land that has not been properly re-mineralized. That having been said, now consider the fact that food processing further leaches out minerals from our foods. Canning, cooking and drying of foods not only removes calcium but key trace minerals necessary for calcium absorption, which we will talk about later. For these many reasons it is our position that you cannot get enough calcium and the right form of calcium from your diet, especially if you are over 50 years of age. 1-888-454-8464

We include organic strontium as part of all of our calcium formulas. Due to its ability to increase calcium to bone. We do not recommend super high does of any minerals as this can imbalance body chemistry.
Thank you for your videos! I was wondering what do you think about the high does stontium supplement? You have not videos on the subject.
Thank you!
vitamin k is crucial for “cementing” calcium to bone. Tezstosterone in men is also a major player.
Great video tahnks
ca is important for bones. osteoclasts. it is rgulated by pth. pth increases ca conc. hence hyper pth
ca has to be acidic to be absorbed. age casues loss of acidifying ability. hence absorption of all medicines that are absorbed from stomach.

Please do a swine flu and address the tamiflu situation. Since swine flu is the biggest thing in the news right now. I hope it comes out soon
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for responding. I’ll give the liquid calcium a try. Thanks.
The only people saying that taking supplements is bad are the drug companies!!! Calciumn is very difficult to absorb so crushing is a good idea. You can also obtain a liquid calcium, which is the one we use with our clients here. It is available from the phoenix nutritionals website.
Thanks dr.whiting. But can you answer me this-
Why are they saying taking supplements are bad?
Is it ok for me to take calcium?
One more thing, I always crush the tablets into powder and drink with orange juice. I have half a tablet in the morning with food, and half in the evening. Is this a good method?
Please reply. Thank you.
strontium should be taken seperately from calcium because they compete for absorption. To gain maximum absorption of each, they should be taken a few hours apart.
My video about C-51 will be up before the end of the month. Keep checking back.

“Vitamins D and K are also very important for calcium assimilation and absorption. ”
Why does not he mention that in this video?
Calcium is very important to women. Especially because when we get pregnant our babies will take the calcium from our bones if we do not get enough. Now I know what kind to take when I get pregnant again.
Calcium citrate (mentioned in the video) is OK but I prefer Calcium Hydroxyapatite with phosphorus. This form of calcium (Hydroxyapatite) is found naturally in bone tissue. It provides both the organic and inorganic constituents found in the skeletal structure. This form of calcium is
also very absorbable.
Vitamins D and K are also very important for calcium assimilation and absorption.
