@jeangrey65 What are you talking about? Corn is one of Mexico’s greatest crops! (or was). And if we’re so good at growing corn why does the government have to subsidize corn farmers with billions of dollars so they can stay competitive? If we’re so good at it we shouldn’t need any government help at all. The market should take care of it.
@WeRefuseCom The fact is, is that our land is better for corn growth. It’s very hard and expensive to get the water and pesticides to Mexican corn. There was a documentary about it on Hulu.
@jeangrey65 – We’re not “giving corn to Mexico”, it’s just as cheap for us too. What we’re doing to Mexico is stealing their jobs! When we make corn cheaper than they can the small Mexican farmer goes out of business.. and then they come to the U.S. for work!
Grain based ethanol is not much needed or the fuel of the future. Cellulose based ethanol made from plant stalks is a much better option, and petroleum fuels are only temporary anyway.

Hell, what pisses me off is that subsidized farms that manufacter corn is providing Mexico with most of it’s corn supply, simply because it’s cost 6 pesos to grow it there but only 4 do buy it from the United States! Now that includes shipping! WTF? Your hard earned tax dollars at work GIVING corn to Mexico instead of creating a much needed alternate fuel such as Ethanol

The removal was in response to negative public perception resulting from the high-fructose corn syrup ad campaign. Apparently it has become a liability to defend the sweetener.

I am allergic to corn. What is interesting to me is an old Indian (Ghandi) discipline that calls for categorizing all foods into three groups and rotating through these groups: today all you want of anything in Group I, tomorrow Group II, day after Group III, then Group I again on the forth day.

I agree with wonderwhoman. It is not the corn that is killing us, it is the people that dont know how to eat it in the right quanities. If you eat fast food all the time, I bet you get fat, but eat that same fast food in a resonable amount and not for every meal you wont become fat. Go to the schools in rural america where there is not a fast food place on every corner and the number of children facing obiesity drops because the arent eating all that fast food. ITS NOT THE CORN MAKING YOU FAT!

Growing up in Iowa, believe me, I am all for helping farmers. Most Iowans live very humbly and don’t ask for much in return. But, if you read “Omnivore’s Dilemma” you see that we used to have a much more logical (and better paying) system for farmers. We need to change our farming policy, but that won’t happen without a huge crisis or a massive campaign from the people. Education is just the first step. So wonderwhoman, realize that we can be against the system and still for the farmers.
